These historic books were manufactured in 1985/86 by the Marquis of Breadalbane for distribution to family and friends. They were to be a memento and lasting reminder of the links between the Campbell's and Kilchurn Castle.
There were only 112 sets privately printed and were manufactured to a high standard, therefore it is an extremely rare piece of work.
Each is housed in a double-wall cardboard case with the Kilchurn crest printed on top. The case opens and the set is enclosed in a clamshell box covered in black cloth. Inside is lined with the tartan colours of Clan Campbell. There are three parts to the set, comprising:
a) The Black Book of Taymouth, with gilt edging, black cloth boards, within a black slipcase. Blue ribbon attached. There are 441 pages of black and red print, with fine colour plates and engravings. All of the pages are facsimiles of the Black Book of Taymouth and Papers from the Breadalbane Charter Room. Some 500 years of history is chronicled in this book. If you’re into geneology this is a great reference book. Titles in gold embossed print. Size is 28cmx22cm.
b) Kilchurn Heritage The History, authors Anthony Kamm and Rennie McOwan. The book is 65 pages of history of the castle and contains stunning photos taken by Dennis Hardley. Gilt edging and gold embossed titling. Size is 29cmx21cm.
c) A tube, again in black clamshell type pattern cloth, encloses a fine photograph of the Castle, together with a scroll showing the crests and history of the Breadalbane name, all in fine print, in colour. Size is 45cm.
